More compatible == shipped pre-compiled on more systems. So far
as I know, Sun is the only vendor that still ships only compress
pre-compiled, and under Solaris 7, even they ship "zip".

Guess what? You're not the author of postfix. You don't get to
determine the language that patches will be posted in, and you don't
get to determine the program that will be used for compressing the
patches that are posted.
