My problem with open relays is not spam specifically, but that you
simply cannot verify who the mail came from (without resorting to PGP)
I will always reject mail from open relays because of this.
Take for example a commercial software vendor going to give you a patch.
Said vendor doesn't use PGP and probably doesn't even know what it is.
Is this closed-source executable actually coming from the vendor, or is
it a trojan coming from their competitor? The mail headers say it's
from the vendor, but you can't tell as they use an open relay.
