Hey folks! I set up postfix on a Linux box
here to handle our outbound mail for our
mailing lists. Things have worked pretty
well for the most part, but looking in the
logs I see tons of 'connect to x.x.x.x[x.x.x.x]:
read timeout (port 25)' messages. First of
all, what governs this sort of timeout? I
thought this was just the smtp_connect_timeout
parameter, which I set to 60. But my connections
still timeout. I telnet to port 25 on some
of these machines, and I usually get the Sendmail
banner easily within 60 seconds. Anyone have
any ideas why I see so many timeouts? WHat
sort of things should I look for?
Oh - I'm at postfix v 19991231-pl06, on
a RH 6.1 box, stock kernel.
I'll probably mail more later asking for ideas
on how to increase performance.
Thanks,
Dana
