Personally I've not had any trouble with making fetchmail deliver to the
local postfix MTA (which in turn delivers via
mailbox_command = /usr/bin/procmail), so at least I follow esr's default
value.
My original comment about not using an MTA really referred to about
"extracting mail" from the ISP, which didn't seam to imply using the
smtp MTA - MTA link.
