From sample-smtpd.cf:
# maptype:mapname: look up recipient address, parent domain, or localpart.
# Reject if result is REJECT or "[45]xx text"
# Permit otherwise.

And (this being the reason I checked this point :-) when you specify just
access without a map type:
May 4 09:47:30 ws01 postfix/smtpd[23024]: warning: unknown smtpd restriction: "/etc/postfix/access"

While dbm:/etc/postfix/access works fine :-)
