Subject: Errors from postfix on large listar list delivery
From: Mailing List Account (mlistsohoweb.net)
Date: Fri May 05 2000 - 17:57:02 CDT

I just had one of my users try to send their newsletter -- 3605 members.
Received the following error from postfix:

  Out: 220 mail1.smallbizhost.net ESMTP Postfix (Postfix-19991231-pl05)
  In: EHLO rabbit.bizserver.net
  Out: 250-mail1.smallbizhost.net
  Out: 250-PIPELINING
  Out: 250-SIZE 10240000
  Out: 250-ETRN
  Out: 250 8BITMIME
  In: MAIL FROM:<cc-newsletter-bouncecapital-connection.com>
  Out: 250 Ok
.
.
. (at recipient 2602, this starts -- or, at least, this recipient is on
line 2602 of the listar users file)
  In: RCPT TO:<rmcbrideabacuscomputers.com>
Out: 452 Error: too many recipients
  In: RCPT TO:<gelotraxweb.net>
Out: 452 Error: too many recipients
  In: RCPT TO:<Wmacevedoaol.com>
Out: 452 Error: too many recipients

How do I
        a) get listar to chunk the list in, say, 1000-user blocks (maybe
"sort-tolist = yes" ?), or
        b) get postfix to take listar's message dumps, regardless of number of
recipients (I only want this on things coming from listar, or at most
localhost -- I do not want anyone to be able to put a 3500-name BCC in an
outgoing mail and send it using their MUA)

This is an important thing to me -- I have several lists that will be
coming over to my server that number above 7,000 recipients (yes, they are
opt-in lists, if you are concerned <VBG>)
