Not only is there the possibility, there is the reality that you can use
all sorts of funky backend systems as user databases. MySQL and LDAP
are two of the more involved methods.
Documentation on integrating both is included with the postfix distribution.
You may like to use one of the latest snapshots as they have much better
MySQL support from what I recall.
I really suggest using LDAP instead, it integrates with other mail
applications a hell of a lot better (eg, address books in Netscape
Communicator).
