I have done this the last four years with sendmail and more than 500
customers. Everything worked perfectly.

Well, it might be ugly. But it is quite wonderful to do a

  select User,Password,Address from Accounts where User like = 'E%';

and to find all configured Email-accounts - and I really cannot change all
customers - well, so switch back to Sendmail again?
