If they're marked with an asterisk in mailq output, they are in the
active subdir, and you should wait until they've been sent.

Urgh. This is a pretty bad idea if you're running chroot()ed
(unless you've set up init.d/rc scripts which recreate the
environment, like e.g. OBSD does for named).
