You'll want to make sure that your mailing list software sorts
the recipient list by average delivery times (decaying average over
the last month), as well as by domains/MX servers, and then breaks
the list up into more manageable chunks -- e.g., no more than 100
recipients for each copy of the message that is sent.
These tips and many more can be read in the papers by Kolstad and
Chalup, URLs for which I have recently posted here. While they are
written about sendmail, many of the issues are applicable to any MTA,
including postfix. Please read them and understand them before
making any big decisions.
