I would like to move from a Windows NT (ack!) based email system using
Ipswitch Imail to a *BSD/Postfix system, and am looking for advice from
those who have been down this path before.
The first thing that I need to get my noggin around is the best way to setup
users on multiple domains on the same machine.
Under IMail, the user "webmaster" could be a separate user account on one
domain than the "webmaster" user on another domain on the same server given
that user/passwords are not part of the OS, but are part of the email
software...and I do mean users (user id and password) and not aliases. SO
the first question is how do organizations with many domains deal with that
on *BSD...what kind of user naming convention do most of you use for
similiar users on the same system. If these were normal users, aliases
would suffice, but we also have 3rd party email tracking software that logs
into the various webmaster
, info
, tech
, etc accounts for processing...
My next question is of availability and redundancy...one of the reason to
upgrade is to move to a redundant 2 server system...what is the best way to
achive this overall goal? I remember an article or two here and there about
hoq Qwest or UUNet or someone accomplishes this..anyone got any good links
to HOWTOs on that kind of project?
Thanks,
-=Chris
