    Hi Michael.

    Yes I have seen that some people do this. I think the freebsd
    packagers do the same. However I am not convinced that if Wietse
    provides a program install procedure that it should not be used.

    IMHO it is better to use the provided tools if they are available and
    Wietse did include a install_root variable precisely for this usage.
    (It was at my asking though).

    I know that the package install can be done without INSTALL.sh but I
    think it is better to use it, precisely as INSTALL.sh makes sure that
    file and directory permissions are set appropriately.

    Perhaps I'm wrong here?
