Actually, the domain exists, except that whois indicates that its =
    record
expired on 4-Mar-2001. They need to renew their domain registration.

Just becuase you may think of them as "major" doesn't magically fix =
    their
    DNS and mail system.

I often use a script that I developed for the purpose, but you can =
    simply do
the CNAME, MX and A lookups by hand with e.g. dig or nslooklup. Here is =
    the
output of my script for computacenter.com, btw:

    ----------
    Test of domain computacenter.com started at Wed May 2 15:33:44 2001 =
    UTC

Looking up CNAME records for computacenter.com...
No CNAME records found for computacenter.com (NXDOMAIN).

Looking up MX records for computacenter.com...
No MX records found for computacenter.com (NXDOMAIN), emulating one.

    Preference Mail exchanger
    0 computacenter.com

Looking up A records for computacenter.com...
No A records found for computacenter.com (NXDOMAIN)!

Test of domain computacenter.com ended at Wed May 2 15:33:44 2001 UTC
    ----------

I think that explains the problem. Obviously, in this case, trying
postmastercomputacenter.com won't do you any good. Look after their =
    domain
contact addresses. Except it says NXDOMAIN, i.e. it doesn't exist at =
    all.
