Hi all,
With Postfix release 19991231-pl13 and the current release
Postfix-20010228-pl02 I have the following problem:
Several messages stay stuck in the deferred queue.
My thoughts about it is that the responding MTA (it runs with Netscape
Messaging server 4.05 Patch 2 (built Oct 5 2000) accepts the mail but while
sending the DATA (before end of data/ .CRFL) it looks to send an rset and the connection is
lost.
I think the problem is this: the message namely contains an .EXE file as attach and according to several anti-virus programs it contains some sort of virus!
Does the problem lie with the receiving MTA?
Either an MTA bodychecks the message and rejects the incoming mail or it
accepts the mail and delivers it, this is, as far as I know "normal rfc behaviour".
Has anyone experienced this behaviour also?
Since the SMTP id stays the same (ofcourse) it is the same message that gets
transferred to the active queue, receives the possible rset while the data is in
transit (I don't think that the message size limit is exceeded at the
receiving MTA) and is being transferred back to the deferred queue on my
Postfix box.
I have encountered this problem with Postfix Release 19991231-pl13 running on
Solaris 7 (Sparc4u) and Postfix-20010228-pl02 on an RedHat 6.2 Linux box.
This is a snip from syslog on the Solaris box:
May 2 16:16:56 mailhost postfix/smtp[2015]: D7A1D36CDC:
to=<user
foo>, relay=mail.domain.nl[xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx], delay=253818,
status=deferred (lost connection with mail.domain.nl[xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] while sending message body)
When I run a tcpdump alongside with it it appears that the receiving MTA sends
an rset and it closes the connection.
