Hi. I'm a linux newbie and have selected postfix as my mail application.
I've got it up and running, along with apache, mailman and wu-ftp.
I'm confused however, with all of the options available in postfix
for handling multiple domains. Aliases, mapping, sendmail-style and
postfix-style virtual domains are all muddling my brain.
These are my current domains: csd-bes.net, support.csd-bes.net,
seesb.csd-bes.net and seesb.com. My server's real name is
6116.csd-bes.net, and I have an alias currently set up for "rbrandt"
to go to "rbrandt
6116.csd-bes.net". It works fine when I send an
email to "rbrandt
csd-bes.net". I also have a test mailman list set
up at testa
csd-bes.net. It works too. What I want is to be able
have mail sent to "rbrandt
support.csd-bes.net" and to the other
domains too and have it arrive in the same box as
rbrandt
csd-bes.net. I can't get this to work I get an error
bounced back that the postfix doesn't like the name. I think that
with this style of virtual domain I want "sendmail style", but I've
tried to implement it and it doesn't work. User names don't need to
be unique for each domain, but someday I might need that. I think
that would be postfix style, right? Can I do both sendmail and
postfix style at once? The mailing lists also don't need to be
unique for each domain, which ever is easiest to configure and
maintain.
I've read the "virtual", "aliases" and "mapping" pages at the postfix
site, but like I said, I'm not getting it and what I have tried
hasn't worked.
Any help would be appreciated.
TIA
Rob
