RedHat seem to be providing their own postfix rpms, but they don't
keep them up to date, which is a shame.
It might help if you try my latest ones which shouldn't give you the
errors you are getting. See http://www.pobox.com/~sjmudd/postfix

This probably means that smtp is running in a chroot environment and that
/var/spool/postfix/etc/services does not exist or has the wrong permissions.

Something sounds very wrong. What does rpm -V postfix say?

This is wrong, but is the package's default setting.
I mentioned this to the package maintainer some time ago.
The mail uid is not for postfix's exclusive use.

This all looks ok.
I'd check with rpm that the package is "ok", and if you still
have trouble would suggest you look at my packages which should
not have this problem. I've not heard of RedHat's having it
either as their package is based on an older version of mine, so
maybe the cause of the problem is _not_ their package.
