I am talking about kernel RAMDISKS there, not solid state disks. I would
have to agree that the ide interface would probably be a big bottle neck.
I wrote down what I did BTW:
http://www.quadratic.net/index.php?target=http://www.quadratic.net/reference
/ramdisk500.html
As an aside, google has been working hard to contribute a much
imporoved ide driver that will let you get close to 80% efficiency on 2 IDE
channels each with a single disk. Check out :
http://technetcast.com/tnc_play_stream.html?stream_id=420 (alert: geek
factor high , the issue they talk about are the same issues I deal with
daily )
Please note...
all queue's for a given server instance must be on the same disk (or kernel
ramdisk as the case may be).
I argued long and hard with a client who want me to dump "defered" mail to
disk, to let "fast" mail past saying that it could not be done.
However I think there is a work around.
I think you could set the transport for "defered" to a relay host that is
just another instance running on the same server (on a different interface)
that is using a proper disk for queues.
anyone care to comment?
