I think the best O'Reilly animal has to be that of Internet Core Protocols:
Trout.
It wasn't until I finished the book that the animal made sense. What better
animal to represent TCP/IP than an animal who's whole purpose in life is to
swim hundreds of miles through complex waterways and back just to perpetuate
the species?
With that in mind, it's too bad the meerkat is already taken.
