Sussed it.
Rather embarrasing actually..........
I found that there was a libsasl7 rpm installed......
I guess Postfix was linking to the rpm version of the
lib, not the one that I had installed.
Now I have:-
250-AUTH CRAM-MD5 DIGEST-MD5 PLAIN
and the magic
235 Authentication successful
