What can I say? :-)
I don't say that I have anything to prove. But, using libsyncdir,
I got all of those 1000 mails (note I repeat the test several times).
I got the same results if I set maildir directory updates synchronously
(chattr +S). Using mailbox instead of maildir, I got all of those 1000
mails.
I guess that, because link/unlik operations on ext2/ext3 isn't
done 'synchronously' (it do not fsync() parent directory), then using
maildir on top of those fs is not 'safe'.
BTW, I already mention that I got more than 1000 mails using
ext3 before. That information is incomplete (inaccurate) I got
more than 1000 mails if I disable synchronous updates on postfix's
spool (using chattr -S) on top of ext3 partition.
