    This is my understanding:

    If you have a local DNS server doing zone transfers of mail-abuse.org, then
    you have to make sure your postfix machine uses that local DNS server for
    lookups - ie, that you have the local DNS server specified in resolv.conf
    or whatnot.

    The local DNS server is that case is just acting like a caching nameserver,
    except that it happens to have the entire zone cached immediately. You
    have to tell your postfix machine to check that DNS server first;
    otherwise, the lookup will go to whatever DNS servers are listed in the SOA
    record for mail-abuse.org, and your machine is likely not one of those.
