Interestingly, we just had an issue with five-ten-sg (not a bad one,
though). A "very important person" was trying to contact our PR guy (keep
in mind we're an ecommerce company, not an ISP). He couldn't get mail
through because his ISP, XO, is blacklisted by five-ten-sg. He contacted
five-ten like a good little soldier, and was told by Carl Byington (the
very nice fellow who runs five-ten) the reason for the listing. VIP was
also told that Carl couldn't understand why somebody else would use his
DNSBL. All of this was forwarded to me as postmaster.

I contacted Carl and told him that if he didn't want others using his
list, I had no problem with that and would remove five-ten-sg from my
DNSBL checks. He said that he neither encourages nor discourages the use
of his service. It's public so that people can find out why they were
rejected. However, it is specific to his clients, and therefore he is not
concerned with blocking too much. As an example, he said that none of his
clients deal with anyone in China, so all of China is blocked.

As a matter of official policy, we removed five-ten-sg from our check. We
will only be using companies that:
    1) exist officially for the purpose of blocking spam and open relays, and
    2) clearly explain their policies for adding and removing addresses from
    their lists.

Your mileage may, of course, vary.
