i've been monkeying around with different options in sasl2/smtpd.conf, and
some behaviors are not clear to me.
it's my understanding that the smtpd.conf file is what defines how sasl2
functions on behalf of smtpd to authenticate.
so as a test, i changed from using 'pwcheck_method: saslauthd' to having
an empty smtpd.conf file (which i interpreted as having no methods
defined)
once i did that, and reloaded postfix, i expected no success using any of
smtpd's advertised available methods. and as expected, LOGIN no longer
worked. however, CRAM-MD5 still worked - leading me to beleive that
sasl's behavior on the behalf of smtpd is _not_ explicitly defined by
smtpd.conf.
is this right? will sasl _always_ consult /etc/sasldb2 regardless of how
pwcheck_method is defined?
thanks
