    Hello,

I am implementing a postfix server to act as an e-mail hub, which
distributes mail (using relay_domains) to three groupware servers that
    host different domains.

All servers are behind a firewall, and the firewall acts as an SMTP proxy
    for the domains we host.

    The incoming path is:

Internet --> SMTP proxy on firewall
      --> postfix server, which relays to --> Groupware1, 2 or 3 depending
    on domain.

The relaying works but what happens to the mail when a groupware
server is down? As far as the sending server is aware the mail has
reached its destination (the proxy IP address on the firewall), or is that
    not the case?

Would the postfix server hold the mail? At what point would the mail be
sent to the second MX server?

In the DNS zonefile, we would set up MX records such as:
mail IN A 203.44.223.100 ;IP address of proxy
    mail IN MX 0 mail.aot.com.au.
    mail IN MX 50 postoffice.telstra.net.

    Thanks for any advice,

    adrian
