hello,
does 447 reply code exists? and if it does what does it mean?
the reply code above was given by an exchange server, I belive
{Microsoft SMTPSVC(5.0.2195.5329)} to someone who was trying to send
mail to one of our domains; my end is postfix 1.1.11 (debian woody).
as far as I can see, the respective exchange server didn't even try to
establish a connexion to postfix to deliver mail to that particular
domain; however, it can send mail happily to other domain that is hosted
on the same postfix. (postfix style virtual domains, not sendmail)
the 447 code looks like a temporary failure, exchange tries to deliver
the mail for a few days, and after that gives up, saying it could not
deliver the message in the time limit specified (gives the 4.4.7 reply
code).
I've been looking in rfc821, and found no mention of 447.
I belive it's a misconfiguration on the exchange, or on the name servers
on their side, because I have all (3) domains working for some time,
without any problems.
Any ideas appreciated,
Dragos Delcea
