Patrick,
I don't want to use my provider's servers. I have rented a Linux box
that is set up at my provider's computer center. I have full root access
there. I have set it up to be my mail-server, so it has to get and
deliver my emails. This means I want it to act as my SMTP server. As
Postfix only allows SMTP-RELAY from a known network and I want to be
able to access it from any where (especially as I use a dial-up line, I
don't have permanent Ips).
That leads me back to the SMTP AUTH solution. I also have set it up, but
the PAM authentication still doesn't work. It can't check the
user/password combinations sent to it. As far as I could gather
information this is caused by Postfix not running as root.
Any solutions?
Alexander

you want Postfix to SMTP AUTH with your providers mailserver? Then you
don't need PAM. Before we go any further: What System, OS, Version,
Postfix-Version and last but not least Cyrus-SASL version do you use?

Believe me: This is great!
