I've been using Linux as a desktop and web authoring tool (apache, mysql
and php) for a year now, and obtained a new job about 6 months ago. At my
place of work they're all heavily into Lotus Domino and Notes.
However, one contract that we have is for a mailing list, to put teachers
in touch with each other. I jumped at the chance and said about mailman and
my line manager responded that he used it for a gardening list he belongs
to and is impressed by it.
So, we installed a linux server, which will be primarily a mailman server.
At the moment, it's sat within our intranet with no ingoing traffic (ie.
you can't see it from outside) from the net (but it can access the net). It
has an internal domain - maillists.cfbt.int
I've installed postfix (after being frightened to death by Sendmail) and
really haven't got the nouse to configure it correctly. The IT department
(to which I do not belong) are treating this with suspicion so there's
pressure for me to get this right.
Initially, I'd like the server to forward email to their current SMTP
server, so that we get the benefits of their virus protection.
However, later, it will forward mail out to the net itself and have its own
virus protection (I've followed that thread with interest).
Secondly, I'd like it to receive email for it's internal domain
(maillists.cfbt.int) - the guys who deal with Lotus Notes are trying to
configure their system so it does it, but I just want to make sure I get
the linux box right. Currently it is not receiving mail - and I want to
make sure that it's not a problem with my box, and rather with lotus notes.
Am I right in thinking all I need to configure is the mydestination and
myorigin variables?
Any advice would be gratefully received. I spent the whole of yesterday
reading the config and would appreciate some guidance here.
Thanks in advance.
Adam
