    I use courier-imap for virtual imap and pop3 access. Courier accesses the
    mail messages that Postfix stores in the Maildir/ format. No databases
    are used for message storage.

    Depending upon how you do your virtual users, courier-imap will use a
    database of some sort to store your virtual user info. I use the userdb
    format (hashed flat files). Here's a good place to start:
