    Right, I know that, and you know that, but try telling that to tenured
    faculty or administrative staff that have been sending mail that way for
    15 years :(.

    I can certainly start trying to educate our users, but maybe as a
    temporary solution the following entry in the canonical map will work:

      otherplace.foo.company.com otherplace.company.com

    I'll give it a shot.
