Andreas,
This is Postfix 2.0.5 - straight off the net and installed yesterday.
Here's the start-up command line:
-----------------------------------------------------------
root
dog# postfix start
postfix/postfix-script: warning: not owned by root: /var/spool/postfix
postfix/postfix-script: starting the Postfix mail system
-----------------------------------------------------------
And here's what show up in /var/log/mail:
-----------------------------------------------------------
Mar 7 00:12:43 dog postfix/postfix-script: warning: not owned by root: /var/spool/postfix
Mar 7 00:12:44 dog postfix/postfix-script: starting the Postfix mail system
Mar 7 00:12:44 dog postfix/master[5233]: daemon started -- version 2.0.5
-----------------------------------------------------------

My master.cf file is completely unaltered from the distribution.
The "chroot" column equals "n" in every row of the table.
I have changed a few parameters in main.cf now.
So I will wait for the next 24-48 hours to see if it makes a difference.
CHeers,
