Hard to say. Are you an Earthlink customer and trying to send from your
machine via the Earthlink SMTP server or are you outside and trying to email
to an Earthlink customer?
If you have tcpflow (my favorite, or etheral, etc.) on your system set it up
to record the conversation between your machine and Earthlink's. That could
yield some clues.
