Have you heard of SQL-Relay? (http://sqlrelay.sourceforge.net/)
I suggest using that client side because for the same sort of effort
you will obtain access to many database servers instead of only 2
(Sybase & MS-SQL both use the TDS protocol because one is a derivative
of the other).
