The symlink must be incorrect, for your system.

The point being that Cyrusl SASL will only look in /usr/lib/sasl2 to
find the libraries implementing the actual authentication. I guess
the default installation parameters put the libraries in
/usr/local/lib/sasl2, and thus you need to fix that location
disparity. On my systems, however, the sasl libs are not in
/usr/local at all --- I used the debian package which puts nothing in
/usr/local and so those instructions don't apply to my situation.
