Did I make some error of protocol in asking my question (below)? I seem to
have got zero replies!
Could I ask one more question, in addition to those below: if the DNS
fails to give a response when looking up the relayhost, is it possible to
make Postfix defer the emails, rather than bounce them?

Subject: Multiple relays?
Is there any way to configure multiple relays (in both the "relayhost'
parameter of main.cf and the transport map) WITHOUT using a hostname that
has multiple MX records?
In other words, can I directly specify IP addresses for multiple relay
hosts and have postfix try them in turn, without relying on DNS to provide
the IP addresses?
