That's a pretty lame excuse for documentation that doesn't even adequately document the syntax of main.cf. Postfix has decent documentation by today's standards, but it's far from perfect. If Postfix documentation "is written for IT people", that is justification for not explaining (for example) SMTP concepts, but it's not justification for the numerous areas where the explanation of Postfix-specific features is far from clear.

Which brings me to my next point:

I subscribe to a number of mailing lists (eg, ISC-DHCP, NTP, OpenLDAP, OpenSSL, PostgreSQL, SASL) that would be normally of interest only to "IT people", and they all get their share of "dumb questions", but this list has a FAR MORE sarcastic tone than any of the others.

Usually those making the sarcastic comments ARE helpful, and it's usually better than no answer at all, but perhaps there is a middle ground?
