hello.
i've been using postfix-2x since the early stages and for me it was very
stable. no problems what so ever. my layout includes antivirus using
kav, spamassasin and cyrus. i'm using two diferent mashines for mta and
imap/pop so in other words postfix, kav and spamassassin uses one
mashine and cyrus-imapd/sieve/webmail another.
i have arround 150 users. the mta mashine is a p3 xeon at 800MHz with
256 Mb of ram, the cyrus is an old p2 laptop at 233Mhz and 128Mb of ram.
i have daily trafic of about 2000 (nonspam/nonvirus included) incoming
mails and about 400-500 mail outgoing. in my opinion for a small group
of users as we are it's a very eficient layout. the main cpu killers are
the av and spamassassin. postfix itself it's very fast compared to
sendmail. (i didn't try neither qmail or exim as it doesn't fit my
philosiphy). i also have a few other postfixes in my care which don't
use spamfiltering and av and work very fine on very old masines with
32Mb/64Mb of ram, however spamassassin is unusable on slow mashines.
as for cyrus uses lmtp to recive from postfix. it doesn't use cpu or mem
all that much. it only uses heavy i/o on disk (heavy for that old laptop
mashine). as for webmail i use horde/imp which it's pretty and quite
fast and flexible if u know how to set it up well. never tryed squirrel
mail... never will. i like horde coz out of the box can take advantage
of every option my cyrus has (like quota, changing passwords, maildirs,
sieve, spam reporting). also it's kinda cute and practical too because
of calendar, the comics module and the news module.
i was planing in implementing the openldap address book so that it can
be used in outofluck and evolution but i can't decide on witch of the
two masines i should put it on.
regarding your layout i only suggest two things. fast cpu for
spamassasin, fast and big hdd for cyrus as 200-500 users can take some
space.
i would sugest if u have specific questions regarging this setup asking
me personally if their not postfix related.
