Got a complaint from a customer this morning that our outbound SMTP server
was bouncing their mail to a certain domain (prairienet.net), saying it
looped back to itself. Well, we don't host that domain, so I dug a little
deeper. Here's what I found.
# dig prairienet.net mx
<<SNIP>>
;; QUESTION SECTION:
;prairienet.net. IN MX
;; ANSWER SECTION:
prairienet.net. 660 IN MX 10 nomx.ultsearch.com.
<<SNIP>>;; ADDITIONAL SECTION:
nomx.ultsearch.com. 354 IN A 127.0.0.2
Why would you DNS someone's MX record to a localhost address? It looks
intentional, given the 'nomx' hostname.
Can someone else try this so I can verify it's not just my DNS?
Thanks!
