E-Mail server redundancy

Hello all

In studying the possibilities for e-mail server redundancy, I'd like to
know your opinions on the fact. What I've read leads me to believe that
this tends to not be a simple problem to solve (i.e., full redundancy,
not just MTA, but also IMAP, etc.)

Can someone describe the techniques usually used to achieve this,
limitations, etc? Or offer up links to such information?

Best
