Not too sure on this one, perhaps Wietse could shed some light on this.
On a side note, if you are running postfix in a chroot jail, then you
are pretty conscious about security in which case, if you're using some
type of linux distro, i hope you are using the grsecurity patches (with
all the chroot-breaking protections enabled)..
On another side note, use syslog-ng..
