Problems with resolution of 'localhost' - qmgr and smtp ignoring 'hosts' file?

Hello List.
Yesterday I upgraded from SuSE 8.2 to SuSE 9.0. Since
then, I have had problems receiving email on my local
machine (which is why I'm using a webmail account to send
this message). The problem is that qmgr and smtp are
resolving the localhost.lasermount.uklinux.net hostname
incorrectly, and are then getting 'Connection refused'
errors.
I've attached an extract from my 'mail' log file, showing
all lines for one particular message. As can be seen,
both qmgr and smtp are resolving the FQDN for 'localhost'
to the IP 80.84.64.29. Doing a 'dig' on
'localhost.lasermount.uklinux.net' does indeed return
this IP number, which turns out to be the machine where
my webspace is located at my ISP.
However, in my /etc/hosts file I have the following line:
----------8<--------------------8<----------
127.0.0.1 localhost.lasermount.uklinux.net localhost
----------8<--------------------8<----------
and my /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/nsswitch.conf both
indicate that the /etc/hosts file should be read before
DNS lookups are done. Indeed, the smptd process resolves
it to 127.0.0.1, as can be seen from the attached extract.
Postfix version is 2.0.14. The only change I've made to
the config as set up by the SuSE installer is to delete
the lines related to the amavis virus scanner, as I don't
have it installed.
In order not to make this message any longer
than it already is, I've uploaded the following files to
http://www.lasermount.uklinux.net/postfixprobs/ :
hosts, resolv.conf, nsswitch.conf - name resolution files
from /etc
main.cf, master.cf - postfix config files
dig.out - result of 'dig localhost.lasermount.uklinux.net'
msg.seq - same as the attached file
I've checked the docs, but nothing leaps out at me, and
I've also checked the FAQ and searched the ML archives
and on Google, again with no clues as to what I might
have wrong. It's probably a very basic mistake that I've
made, but it has me stumped, so any help in this will be
much appreciated.
Spencer
