We just switched from sendmail to postfix.
Running postfix 2.0.16 on rh9. postfix built from src.

If a message is sent to alias using an include file with more then a certain
number of users the server hangs hard. (7 works 17 hangs.) No one can log in. I
can ls but can not do nothing else. If top had been running it continues to
update. No load increase but the number of processes climb rapidly. ps does not
work.

The message expanded to all the users is in the active queue. If the message is
in the queue on startup the server will hang again right after postfix starts.
moving the offending message out of the queue before starting postfix works.
As long as the list aliases are not used postfix runs great.
