Advice on migration?

I'm in the process of building a replacement mail server, and was
looking for advice on migrating from the old server to the new.

I'm currently running Postfix with ipop3d; the new machine will be
using Postfix/CourierIMAP/MySQL as described in some of the HOWTOs on
the postfix site.

I'd like to make the transition as seamless as possible, and was
wondering if anyone had some suggestions and/or pointers to docs on
managing the transition.

One thought was to keep the MX records pointed at the old machine (I
only have MX records for the domain names), and add entries to the
virtual file to forward mail to the new machine by its hostname.
(This was mentioned on this list in December for running two parallel
systems) Then at the end of the transition, I can change the MX to
point at the new machine.

Any major flaws in this? Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
