hello,
Last friday I did an upgrade on one of the solaris servers.....it was a
bitch! That was the most difficult postfix upgrade I ever had to do!
So....after that experience, I'm preparing to do the 2nd solaris server
this weekend. I noticed that some of the main.cf settings that would
work on version 1 of postfix don't work on version 2.
So....taking that into consideration - I download the source files and
compile them, then do the "make upgrade" in place. But before starting
postfix, I'd have to go into the main.cf and change the settings to look
more like the 1st server running version 2. Are there any more
"gotchas" that I should be aware of?
Last week I ran into a bunch of "gotchas" on the other box.....what a PITA!!
But once version 2 started working.......how SWEET IT IS! It worked
even faster than version 1. I think some of the files or directories
that pertain to postfix on server #1 were damaged or corrupt. We had to
get a few of the other support people online to get the virus scanner to
come up, and one of them said that the queue manager hadn't been working
right for a few weeks prior to this upgrade. That struck me as a
surprise because I couldn't believe how much I had to mess with that
server to make it work right! But after I heard that, I wasn't surprised.
But I have to say, the performance was great. It had around 17k in the
active queue....the version 1 was choking on that for some reason.
After version 2 came up and was working right........that 17k dropped in
just about 1 minute to around 18!! They were amazed how fast it got!
Regards,
Oskar
