Hello all - problem solved. Indeed the executable was not Postfix's.
This mailhost is built on
a RedHat 8 box. RedHat installs Sendmail by default, and optionally
Postfix. RedHat also has
a program called "redhat-switchmail". This program sets symbolic links
in (/etc/alternatives)
to point to either the Sendmail or the Postfix version of programs with
identical names.
This much is ok, redhat-switchmail operates as advertised.
Unfortunately, it's user interface
is a poor text-menu system, and it is seriously deficient about
indicating what it has or has not
changed, or which MTA is actually selected. I would recommend that
anyone using this utility
should check the state of the links in /etc/alternatives to see if it
has worked.
My Sendmail scripting works just fine when the Postfix sendmail is used.
Thanks for the responses.
