virtual vs. maildrop

I have postfix, courier and amavisd-new using mysql lookups just great
in a virtial only setup, no local users. I want to start dropping
emails tagged as spam into a "spam" folder so that people using outlook
and webmail. Originally i was just having the outlook people create a
rule that directed the mail there, but when they are away and using
webmail, the spam drops into the regular inbox.

I have read that i can do this using maildrop as the delivery agent, but
i'm wondering about any negative ramifications of this? I have seen
people say that for virtual mailboxes this is the ONLY way to do this,
is that correct? Do i lose a lot of performance or is the system less
secure at this point? Can i at the point of using the maildrop as the
delivery agent start using .forward and vacation type rules as well?

Thanks in advance
