Upgrading from 2.0.16 to 2.1 RC1

Hi all,
I installed postfix 2.0.16 from ports on FreeBSD originally, and by default it installed to /usr/local/etc/postfix/. I just installed 2.1 RC1 by doing make upgrade as the docs indicated. The install completed without errors, but seems to have installed to /etc/postfix/ instead. I copied my master.cf and main.cf files from the old location to the new one, stopped/restarted postfix, and find that 2.0.16 is still running - it starts and runs without errors, it's just the wrong one. So what did I miss?
