Yes, that would be the preferred approach.

You can find examples of README files under the proto directory
(but the mantools/postlink script requires a sed(1) command that
understands POSIX regexp notation; this will be fixed in Postfix
2.2 snapshots; and this requires the html2text tool).

Or you can roll your own README file.

The sample files are gone because all that information is now
included in postconf(5). To find out what parameters are used by,
for example, the smtpd(8) server, see the smtpd(8) manual page.
I have added a lot of parameters that were omitted there.
