Are you saying that when postfix only relays, no message-id header
is added?
i.e. sender -> MTA1 -> MTA2 -> recipient, and postfix is MTA2.
I repeat rfc2821:
"These changes MUST NOT be applied by an SMTP server that
provides an intermediate relay function."
