The administrator should have used:
proxy:unix:passwd.byname
instead of proxy:nis:passwd.byname. The inconsistency is in the
configuration, not in the software.

local(8) needs a trusted source of uid/gid/home directory, the system
password database is the only source for this information. An administrator
who chooses to base local_recipient_maps on some other data source needs
