delay value in logs

Hey all,

I;ve got a postfix2 setup with spamassassin running, and its
currently working kind of slowly (mail queue gets processed slowly, can
sometimes get 2000+ queue), an SA problem im pretty sure.
I've recently noticed thought that the logs of postfix report something like
"delay=650" in the relay log line (the box is a mail relay that sits infront
of Exchange).

It this just reporting the amount of time that's passed between the receipt
of the email and it's exit from the queue, or is this a delay that is being
forced on the email for some other reason? Last time i actually paid
attention to this value it would always say delay=0 or thereabouts.

thanks,
